Mental health leaders in Kentucky are struggling to fill the myriad vacancies for therapists. Unfortunately, this shortage of social workers has impacted mental health access for some of the state’s most vulnerable populations.
As the state faces this shortage, this means that master’s level therapists have the opportunity to fill an array of social work positions throughout the state. Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) and Licensed Family and Marriage Therapists (LMFT) are two of the most sought-after behavioral health specialists. Paths to licensure for those professionals vary but both will find many opportunities in hospitals, non-profit agencies, and other mental health care facilities.
