  • Fees: Missouri requires candidates to pay a $70 fee for LCSW licensure application and a $260 fee for the ASWB clinical exam.

How to Become an LMFT in Missouri

As a LMFT candidate, you must first earn a bachelor’s degree to start toward your goal of licensure. The other requirements include:

  • Education: At a minimum, you must obtain a master’s degree in marriage & family therapy and meet the educational requirements outlined by the state.

That experience must be completed in no less than two years and no more than five years. The experience must include at least 1,500 hours of direct client contact.

  • Exams: LMFT candidates must pass the "Examination in Marital and Family Therapy," which is developed by the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB).

  • Fees: Missouri requires a $100 fee for LMFT licensure and a $365 fee for the AMFTRB exam.
