How to Become a Remote Nurse Practitioner in New Mexico

An aging healthcare workforce, fewer student nurses, and rising demand from the COVID-19 pandemic have all exacerbated New Mexico’s nursing shortage. As a result, there are many full-time and part-time remote work opportunities throughout the state, including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Las Cruces.

As you apply for your new position as a remote NP (also known as a telemedicine nurse practitioner), keep the following information in mind:

  • Work-from-home nurse practitioner or remote nurse practitioner: Chart review, counseling, monitoring, and even primary care positions are available to remote certified nurse practitioners in New Mexico. While you will do most of the work from home, make sure to check for any on-site requirements in the job description.

  • Additional training: Whether you have an on-site or remote job, you must give the same standard of care as other nurse practitioners. You should plan to continue any additional education as required by your employer, including training on proper webside manner.

  • Necessary documentation: Always keep your resume and other professional documentation updated and readily available.

Telehealth companies often post open positions on job posting sites like Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, and LinkedIn, making these all great places to start your job search for virtual care opportunities. At Wheel, we match clinicians with virtual care opportunities and have a variety of positions available for NPs in New Mexico.
