How to Become a Remote Nurse Practitioner in Minnesota

As access to physicians becomes increasingly rare, certified nurse practitioners continually play a vital role in primary care. There are many part-time and full-time remote work opportunities in Minnesota, from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, to suburban cities like Edina and Coon Rapids.

As you consider applying for a position as a remote nurse practitioner (also referred to as telemedicine nurse practitioner and work-at-home practitioner), consider the following:

  • Work-from-home nurse practitioner or remote nurse practitioner: As a remote NP, you are able to work with the healthcare facility of your choice without worrying about commutes or location. Some employers may mandate on-site work with a care team, so make sure to ask about that when you apply.

  • Additional training: Employers routinely require healthcare professionals to undergo regular in-service training. As a remote nurse practitioner, you must fulfill the same training as your on-site colleagues. Ask your prospective employer about such training, which may involve insights on how to use relevant technology and platforms and best practices for good webside manner.

  • Necessary documentation: Keep your resume, licenses, and certifications readily available and updated. Pre-planning saves you time and headaches.

Telehealth companies often post open positions on job posting sites like Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, and LinkedIn, which makes these all great places to start your job search for virtual care opportunities.
