- Education: The first step to licensure for nurse practitioners is to ensure you have a current Minnesota registered nurse (RN) license or eligibility. Nurse practitioners must also complete graduate-level nurse practitioner programs accredited by a nursing or nursing-related accredited body.
If you completed graduate level nurse practitioner programs before January 1, 2016, you must have enrolled in at least one graduate-level course in each of the following areas: advanced physiology and pathophysiology, advanced health assessment, and pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics of all broad categories of agent.
Certification: Candidates must obtain certification by a nationally recognized state nursing board.
Fee: Applicants must pay a $105 fee.
Your required fieldwork, degrees, fees, and examinations may vary depending on the selected specialization. They include (but are not limited to) family nurse practitioner (FNP), psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP), and adult/geriatric primary care nurse practitioner.
