Profiles in Telehealth: Amanda Simoni - Operations Manager

Learn about Amanda's journey to Wheel and how she's innovating with the team to drive healthcare forward every day.

What’s your role at Wheel?

I work as an operations manager at Wheel, but I feel like my role changes on a daily basis which keeps things fun and exciting. Sometimes you can find me immersed in credentialing and at other times, working directly with our clients to guarantee a smooth launch. Recently, I have been more focused on understanding our unique marketplace and driving projects that ultimately balance both the needs of our clients and those of our clinicians. As an operations team, we are constantly innovating in order to solve problems!

What’s your background? What did you do before working with Wheel?

Although I have lived in Austin for over a year now, I still call Connecticut and all of New England my home. I was born and raised in a small coastal town where I was lucky enough to have the beach and Long Island Sound as my playground. I’m very close to my family, especially since I grew up with 9 of my cousins and my grandmother as my neighbors.

I graduated from Boston University with a major in biomedical engineering with a concentration in technology innovation. I had the opportunity to study abroad in Madrid, Spain, during my sophomore year of college where I lived with a host family for 5 months and explored a variety of European cities. This experience definitely helped foster my love for traveling and experiencing new cultures.

Post-grad, I worked in Boston for a few years before making the leap across the country to work for Wheel. I currently live with my boyfriend, who is a Company Commander in the Texas Army National Guard and a real estate development entrepreneur. We love exploring Austin and finding the best restaurants, but our favorite activity is boating in our shared hometown of Old Saybrook, CT.

Why did you join the Wheel team?

I joined Wheel in October 2019 after working in a management consulting position that focused on developing strategies for large pharmaceutical companies. I’ve always been fascinated by the healthcare industry and enjoy helping others get the care they need, so when I came across an opportunity at Wheel, I was quick to apply.

I instantly fell in love with the fast-paced nature of the startup environment and the passion that the whole team had for changing the way healthcare works.

It has been amazing to see how the team has grown over the past 12 months and I’m so excited to see what the future holds for Wheel! This has definitely been one of the most impactful work experiences I’ve had.

What’s your recent Wheel Moment of Reward?

Wheel recently added a fifth core value, "High Velocity," and it has been so awesome to see people really live and breathe this. We have a lot of problems to solve, but when we are getting ideas out there and exchanging feedback, it creates an environment for productive collaboration and impactful results. Wheel’s culture and mission-focused mindset make you excited to be a part of the team every day.

I also have to give a shout out to the operations team! Everyone on this small but mighty team is always willing to help their teammates, ask tough questions, and cheer each other on.

What do you think the future of healthcare holds?

The current state of the world has forced telemedicine into the spotlight, and it’s our time to shine! Throughout the pandemic, we have been able to virtually triage many COVID-19 cases through at-home testing and risk assessments. This is just the tip of the iceberg with regard to how impactful telemedicine can be. I’m very excited about how virtual care can help increase access to healthcare worldwide.

Thanks, Amanda, for sharing your thoughts and being an essential member of the #WheelCareTeam!
